DO NOT THINK THAT HARDSHIP IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YAHOO EPIDEMIC

Yahoo is trending at number three on Nigeria's Twitter space. And I have observed the belief that hardship is the major course of the Yahoo supportive arratives.

One of the sad but true story is that Yahoo wasn't in real sense spurn by the failure of the Nigeria system to provide opportunities for the teeming young graduates.

Creating opportunities will open up the vista of engagement of most youths, and take them of the path of Yahoo, but what encourages Yahoo is far from hardship.

It is the greed to create wealth or more wealth through an easy dubious route. The belief that the end justifies the means and vice versa.

The true state of the Yahoo epidemic in Nigeria is that it's become attractive not because opportunities are limited -and people seek survival through Yahoo-, but because it has been able to hugely reward so many forerunners of the act in quite a short time, that their lives became a testimony that first seem a fairy tale.

And of course they go about unmarked by the system, uncaught by the system, unchallenged by the system, and hence hailed by the system.

Of course Yahoo had before now become a game for men in their 30's and 40's. In late 80's and mid 90's we heard of Fred Ajudua, Emmanuel Nwude and a host of others who were prefecture to the throne.

Most Yahoo guys, especially nowadays started out while in the university, and graduated to become Chairmen in the business of scam. They never tried their hands in money making activities in their time in school to conclude that it is hard to pursue opportunities. They simply loath certain life style and the quick money syndrome that works, and one with mentors and heroes in streets off the next street.

On graduation some of them still ended up as employees in banks, insurance companies and in consultancy firms, a major threat to today's banking system.

One of the constant that fans Yahoo is the glory it has brought to so many people whom we knew were in penury but suddenly became Kings and Queens of lau lau spending.

It is the image of Yahoo goodness and the swiftness of Yahoo rewards that encourages new entrants, not directly the hardship side of Nigeria's economic treachery.
